South Jordan City Candy Sculpture - Reindeer Scene

This was my second year doing these candy sculptures for South Jordan City. I was so happy with how this one turned out and how easy it was to set up compared to last year! Thanks again to Clint Kotter and his metal base wizardry for the snowman and the tree! The selfie picture is to give you an idea of the scale. The snowman and tree were as tall as me.

Star Wars Tauntaun/Luke groom's cake

For my cute Wendy friend. Her son is a huge Star Wars fan so we decided that a red velvet Tauntaun reminiscent of the ardvark in Steel Magnolias was in order. This one was such a blast! I really love sculpting cakes. It's my absolute favorite.

Weber State University Automotive Competition cake

Quick cake for our competition Thursday. I had to finish it today, a long with 5 dozen cupcakes, because I'll be so busy tomorrow. I'm pretty beat, but I got the sweetest happy mail and hubby surprised me with Howard Jones tickets. I've seen him 7 times, but I love his shows every time! Super excited!

South Jordan City Candy Sculpture - Santa

Because of my Macy's Candy Windows, I was asked to make a candy sculpture for the city of South Jordan. The cool thing about these is that they use them from year to year so this one will be there every Christmas for a while. This candy Santa is 5'4" tall and is made on a metal base that my talented brother-in-law Clint Kotter made. Then I covered him in various forms of styrofoam and carved that. Then I painted him and added the candy. It was about the same amount of a time commitment as the ornament so about 100+ hours. But so much fun!

Grandma Dabb cake

 
Grandma Dabb cake - This was a cake to celebrate what would have been my Grandma Dabb's 100th birthday. I remade the bottom because I wasn't happy with it the first time and then during delivery the torrential rain and humidity made the frosting slide down the sides and it was ruined. So this picture is to show my cousins that at one point, it was a beautiful tribute to our amazing grandmother. Just glad it was going to my family who love me anyway! Also, when I first arrived, my Aunt Jeanette came to greet us. Because of the rain, she had on a hood, was carrying and umbrella and was bent over a little. My heart raced when I saw her as she looked exactly like grandma. I knew it wasn't real, but for a couple seconds, my heart was so happy to see her there. Sorry if I hugged you a little tight Aunt Jeanette. You gave me a little taste of heaven. Love you all! Happy birthday Grandma!

Bookworm cake

 
Bookworm  cake - This was for Alan's uncle Don C. Woodward. I was so excited to get a chance to do something like this for this amazing man. He was an editor at the Deseret News for years in different capacities, so I chose to go with the 1962 version. Mostly because I didn't think I could draw his picture if it wasn't pixilated. He has been a second grandpa to my kids since they were born and I love Don and Julie like they were my own aunt and uncle. Glad I finally had the chance to do something fun for them for a change. Here's to 30 more years of birthdays with you two!

Cheerleader sheet cake

Cheerleader sheet cake - When I booked this cake, I was not going out of town this weekend. I was reluctant because if you know me....I don't do sheet cakes. They are flat, 2D, I just don't usually love them. But I really, really had fun with this one and I'm pretty pleased with it. I am too short to reach all the way across with my little T-Rex arms (part of the reason I hate sheet cakes) so I actually had to write some of the names upside down.....but how do you say no to cute little MHS cheerleaders?

She's just too cute to say no to. Note to self, chocolate does not take well to blue food coloring, but I made a valiant effort. Still tasty even if it looked funny. Happy Birthday Craig!

FFA/Fremont graduation cake - This was a blast for me. I was stressed because I couldn't decide how to make this look good with the FFA logo. Have you seen it? Cool, but kelly green and yellow. I just couldn't make it look good with the coloring of the rest of the cake. So what do all cowgirls do? Slap that sucker on a belt buckle. :-) I always love doing belt buckles because I have to use negative space instead of building up like I usually do. Congratulations Lexie!

Golden Anniversary Floral spray

Golden Anniversary Floral spray - This cake was for a couple who I call my almost in-laws. :-) I love these two so much. They were an integral part of my life for many years and I will always be grateful for their example of how a marriage should be. So loving and fun. I got to spend some time with them the night before and they haven't changed a bit. They will always be in my heart and I wish them many more anniversaries to come.
